Uncontrolled 300,000 smelter slag stockpile at Zeehan. Both Austral Creek and the Little Henty River are severely degraded from this smelter slag, metals in mine waste and former tailings dams. Pea Soup Creek and Zeehan Rivulet are also severely degraded in Zeehan from mine waste and there has been no rehabiltation work done to date from mine waste in Zeehan.

The Rosebery Child Care Centre being remediated a couple of years ago and it shows exactly how close this child care centre is to the centre of mine operations and emissions. MMG mine paid for the remediation to be carried out. THMTT have been calling for years for the relocation of the child care centre to deaf ears. This child care centre is likely the only one in Australia this close to mine operations – approx 50m over the road and opposite an emergency effluent containment dam. 20-11-13

AMD flowing down street drain in front of MMG Rosebery Mine’ s Main Street PR office in the heart of Rosebery – taken 20-11-13
This leaking water meter located in the Primrose area of Rsebery and shows indications of the impact of Acid Mine Drainage. This meter is located close to the MMG Rosebery mine Filter Plant and railway line, and around the corner from Blackwood Street where TasWater found high Lead levels in the water supply earlier in 2013 Nearby Filter Plant and Primrose Creeks have been found to have high levels of metals and AMD. Photo taken by Isla MacGregor on 21-11-13.
Rosebery Main Street impacted by Acid Mine Drainage from MMG Rosebery Mine – in background is one of the mine vent shaft plumes spewing over homes in Clemons and Murchison Streets where residents previously lived who were diagnosed with heavy metal poisoning by Dr Andreas Ernst in 2009. Photo Isla MacGregor 20-11-13
Typical example of Acid Mine Drainage seeping through a Rosebery Street. This street lies below the open cut and behind is the emissions plume from the mine vent shaft. The drinking water supply intake from Mountain Creek is about half a kilometre to the east of this vent shaft plume and less than 1 km from the main mine operations. 20-11-13
